DRC Sports has been monitoring the Covid-19 response and have been discussing all possible scenarios with our Staff, Partners, and Vendors. I have been working to develop a Strategy/Plan for our events that has everybody’s best interest in mind. Yesterday, I received an e-mail from Setup Events, based in North Carolina that did a better job than I could at explaining our position. So with full disclosure, I am copying most of their message, as our position is exactly as theirs and is being adopted by many in the Sports/ Event Management business.
“As you know, the developments are moving at warp speed. At this point nobody has any idea what the status of this situation will be next week, much less what things will look like a month from now.
We do have an advantage with the endurance events that we produce; our events are relatively small, the events are held outside, and we have no crowds sitting in an arena side-by-side. Participants in our events are competing by themselves and physical contact with others is very limited. People coming to any of our events have the ability to exercise whatever degree of “social distancing” they want. Having said that, we’re not taking the situation lightly – we’re closely monitoring developments. But we do need to keep things in perspective.
Our plans are to move forward and make decisions when we’re about a week out from any particular event. This will allow anyone who is traveling from any distance to be able to cancel any hotel reservations they may have made and receive a full refund.
If we end up cancelling any DRC Sports owned event, we will provide anyone who is registered with a full refund.”
Here are some of the steps we are taking to increase our ability to provide a safe event:
